Meet Your Instructor Alex Pfeffer
Hi, I am Alex, a seasoned composer hailing from Hamburg, Germany, with a prosperous 17-year-long career in the trailer music and video game industry.
In 1998, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my passion for music at the Los Angeles College of Music. My journey into the realm of trailer music began in 2005 when I composed my first license track for Dynamedion.
Over the years, I've collaborated with prestigious music production companies such as Two Steps from Hell, Epic Score, Liquid Cinema, Gothic Storm, Position Music, and many more.
My compositions have graced the trailers of renowned movies like Pacific Rim, Sherlock Holmes, and Harry Potter, to name a few. Currently, my music can be heard across 60+ TV shows worldwide.
My musical scores have added depth to numerous popular titles in the video game sphere.
These include CHORUS, Company of Heroes 3, Crysis 2, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Battleforge, Vikings: Wolves of Midgard, Sacred 2, Galaxy on Fire 3, Arcania, Runes of Magic, Risen, John Woo's Stranglehold, Dragon's Prophet, Tian Xia 3, The Settlers VII, ANNO 1404, Kinect Rush, Black Prophecy, DarkStar One, HCA: The Ugly Prince Duckling, and more.
In addition, I've had the honor of working alongside industry giants such as Mick Gordon (DOOM 2016), Trevor Morris (The Tudors), and Frank Peterson (Sarah Brightman).
I've also written numerous tracks for nearly every leading sample library company, further diversifying my portfolio.
What our students have to say
"Already know the seven modes, but using them little, except the minor mode (aeolian). When I saw the output of the last course of Alex Pfeffer, I wondered if it would be relevant for me.
Having already done the course on trailer music and partially started the course on video game music, he would surely have something relevant to teach me.
My intuition was good because his examples of using the modes will help me create variety in my music. In addition to having beautiful examples, it helps us understand the narrative aspect of modes, which can be very useful for video game music.
In closing, I've always believed that theoretical knowledge of music is essential when pushing our music to the next level, so I firmly believe this course can help many people.
Thanks once again, Alex!"
